How to Choose the Right Frame Shape for Your Face

The right frame shape can balance your features and make a pair of glasses feel like it was made for you. Here's a general guide to get you started — though nothing beats trying frames on in person.
Round faces
Round faces benefit from frames with sharper, more angular lines — rectangular or geometric shapes add definition and make features appear longer and more balanced.
Square faces
If your jawline and forehead are similar widths with strong angles, round or oval frames soften those angles nicely. Avoid heavy square frames, which can emphasize an already angular face.
Oval faces
Oval faces are considered the most versatile — most frame shapes work well. Look for frames as wide as (or slightly wider than) the broadest part of your face to maintain your natural balance.
Heart-shaped faces
With a wider forehead and narrower chin, frames that are wider at the bottom — like light, rimless, or cat-eye styles — help balance proportions. Avoid heavy, decorative top frames that draw more attention upward.
Diamond faces
Diamond faces (narrow forehead and jawline, wide cheekbones) look great in oval or browline frames, which soften the cheekbones while adding width at the brow and jaw.
Beyond face shape
Face shape is a helpful starting point, but skin tone, personal style, and how a frame feels are just as important. A frame that photographs well in a size guide might not suit your coloring or the way you actually wear glasses day to day.
Try it in person
The best way to find your frame is still to try it on. Our licensed opticians can help you narrow down shapes and sizes based on your face, prescription, and style — with personalized fittings included on every pair.
